St Patricks Day

Hello Readers. Happy St Patricks Day!!! I love this day because it represents leprechauns and luck.😍 St Patricks Day originated in Ireland and people normally associate it with the colour green. It is considered a lucky day and people used to think about leprechauns and some even dressed up as them. Leprechauns are believed to be similar to genies. Even though leprechauns give out money, They are often believed to be found at the end of a rainbow with a pot of gold.❤

Now that you know a bit of the back history to St Patricks day, go have some fun on this lucky day!

Hockey players – my inspiration

Hello!! Welcome back to another blog post about hockey! I will be writing about the two hockey players who I find the most inspirational. Alyson Annan and Jamie Dwyer. They are both amazing hockey players and both represented Australia at the Olympics for hockey.

Alyson Annan: Alyson is a female hockey player. She scored 166 goals in her Olympic hockey career. She is arguably the best Australian hockey player of all time. She was voted the best hockey player in 1999. She also was a hockey coach for young hockey players from 2012 to 2013. She was a great team player and had great hockey skills.

Jamie Dwyer: Jamie Dwyer was also a phenomenal hockey player. He is originally from Perth WA and he originally played for WA. In his career he has played over 350 matches for Australia and has scored over 220 goals for Australia. He has been to the Olympics three times, the commonwealth games three times and the world cup twice. His position is usually a midfielder or striker.

These are the two hockey players who I find most inspiring. they have both been nominated for many hockey awards and hoave achieved many things in their careers.

Hockey training

Success comes to those who work for it

Hello readers. In today’s blog post I am going to explain to you guys how and when I train.

I have a very tight training schedule so I occasionally find it hard to keep my daily routine going that is why I have to make sure I have a strong mindset and can take criticism not as a hindrance but as a way to make myself better. So I try to do some hockey everyday. Every morning I go outside into my garden at home and do some stick juggles. Doing stick juggles is basically tapping the ball on your stick. Your stick is in the air and you are holding it as if it were on the ground and you tap the ball up and when it comes down again you tap it again. It is a relatively difficult trick but it improves your hand-eye coordination. I try to do at least 100 per day. I do this alone as I can focus better. I also have hockey team training on Wednesday afternoons after school. During the training session we work on things that we don’t do so well at or we need to do better at.  On top of that, I normally play two competitive hockey games a week. I play on my usual team and I also play up for the senior team.

Although I do sometimes find it hard to get the motivation to get up and do my hockey practice, I remind myself that it is one step closer to becoming better and working myself higher up in my hockey skills.

I hope you enjoyed reading this post and learnt about how and when I train and have received some motivation to do training for whatever you do, whether it is a sport, instrument or studying.

I found this cool video of some hockey tricks the video is below or you can click here to watch it. The video shows some hockey players doing some really cool tricks.

Choosing a hockey stick

“Don’t be afraid to give up the good and go for great.”

– Lorna Jane

Hello readers and welcome to another post about hockey. I am going to give you advice on how to chose the perfect hockey stick. If you are a beginner it will probably be different to if you are advanced so I am going to do two different sections.

How to chose a hockey stick for beginners: If you are in your first or second year of hockey or are just not very confident, then I would recommend using a grays stick or a mazon stick. they are both reliable brand. I started out with a grays stick and it lasted me three years. to choose a size when you are a beginner it is good to measure it like to following; stand upright as if you are standing in a hockey turf and stand the stick curved end on the ground and the top of the stick should be about at your belly button.

How to chose a hockey stick for medium to advanced players: For medium to advanced players, any stick with fibreglass is usually good. so sticks like this include brands like princess, atlas and kookaburra. I have a princess stick and am very happy with it so far. Even if you are an advanced player you can still use one of the sticks mentioned in the beginner section. As for size, according to Cairns Hockey  if you are aged between 10 and 15 a good size to chose is 16.5″. This enables you to drop down low to the ground and play hockey properly and be stronger behind the ball.

Thanks for reading and I hope I have helped you with learning how to choose the perfect hockey stick.😇

Hockey

Some dream of success, others get up and work hard for it.

Hello readers! Today I am writing this blog post to let you know about field hockey. This is purely for the readers who do not have much experience with or do not know much about hockey. So field hockey is a ball sport, every player is required to have a hockey stick, mouth guard and shin pads when they are playing a game of hockey. There are 11 players on a field including the goalie. There are also 2 subs who sit on the side line ready to swap with someone if they get tired. This makes up a full team of 13 players.

Different coaches call different positions different things. I will tell you what my coach calls the positions. We basically have 3 lines and then the goalie. We have a front line which is where the centre forward is. The centre forward starts with the ball at the start of the game and they are the main goal scorer. Also on the front line are two players who play the position called right wing and left wing. Obviously, they stand one on each side, one on the left, one on the right. their job is to stay high on the field near the opposing team’s goal box ready to help the centre forward.

In the next row is the inner’s and centre half. So there is a right inner and a left inner. They stay square to (in line with) the centre half. They can help score goals but they are mainly there to help the back row and the front row. They basically keep the flow of the ball going. The centre half is the biggest role. they basically have to go everywhere they can, they can help the back row and they connect with the front row to help them score goals. I usually play centre half or right inner when I play hockey.😛😛

The back row is  made up of halfs and centre back or high full back. The halfs are left half and right half. They control the back half of the field on their side. The high full back acts like a centre guard. They stop the ball from coming through and towards the goal box. The two halfs must cover the corners from either side of the goal box up to the halfway line.

There are two more rows but I am going to combine them because they are very small. The first one in the low full back because they collect any stray hockey balls that get past the high full back and halfs. It is their job to clear the ball from the circle. they are usually the one to take free hits from the top of the circle. The other position, the final one is goalie. They must stay on the goal box the whole game. They may use their hands and feet to save the ball. They are also given a hockey ball but they have a slightly different one that has a curve near the end.

This is a basic outline on how hockey positions work. I hope you have learnt something and have a better understanding of hockey now.💜

The advantages and disadvantages of Computer use

Technology is a useful servant but a dangerous master

I am writing this blog post to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of computer use. I hope you can learn something. Happy reading!!

Advantages of Computer use:

  • It is convenient

If you need to take something somewhere, instead of taking sheets of paper places, you can take a laptop instead

  • It is a good way of contacting others from across the world

If you have family that lives far away for example America and you are in Australia, computers make it easier to contact them.

  • Easier to carry

For example in school if you have to carry textbooks to all your classes, if you have the electronic versions you don’t need to carry them around.

Disadvantages of Computer Use:

  • Loss of meaning in messages

If you are messaging a note to someone they cannot tell if you are being sarcastic or not.

  • You can be hacked

If your computer gets hacked by someone you may lose work and not be able to access sit so you would have to start again

  • Somebody could steal you identity

If somebody finds one of your online social accounts, then they could access all of your personal information and steal your identity

I hope you enjoyed reading this and have learnt more about the advantages and disadvantages of computer use.
